The Maypole

Car Navigation Event

The Maypole 2007 was held on Saturday 12th May. The report and results can be found in the Previous Results section.

The Maypole is  a night navigation event in cars in which contestants try, using accurate map reading, to locate codeboards dotted around the countryside. The event takes place entirely on Ordnance Survey Landranger Series Sheet 166 (Luton and Hertford) and uses edition C3 (see below).  Entry forms can be downloaded from the 'How to Enter' section and explanations of the event can be found in our Step by Step Guide and the FAQs sections

Any member of the Scout or Guide Associations, aged over 14 years, can take part.

Start & Finish Instructions

Teams should be at the start by 7pm and all teams must finish by 1.30 am. The results will be announced as soon as the scores have been calculated. The start and finish location is the 5th Potters Bar Scout Group HQ in Mutton Lane, Potters Bar (next to The Furzefield Centre). Click here for a map showing the location.

Entry Fee

The entry fee for 2007 is £15 per team (up to five people). The entry fee includes free refreshments at the finish.

New OS Landranger Map for Luton and Hertford

In 2006 Ordnance Survey published an updated edition (C3) of Sheet 166 and we will be using this edition to set out the event. We recommend that teams also use this edition as it includes changes to several major roads.

The Maypole is organised by 11th Finchley Scout Group on behalf of Greater London North County Scouts.
